Yoshikane Displays his Courage in the Red Temple, circa 1848 - Dramatic portrait of Oboshi Rikiya Yoshikane, the young son of the 47 ronin's leader Oboshi Yuranosuke, just before committing seppuku in the Kwagakuji Temple. He leans back on one knee with a gun in hand, a fierce expression on his face. The sleeves of his green kimono are tied back with a sash, and his hair sticks out wildly around his face. Curiously, a white dog lies on the floor behind him, covering its face with one paw, the other holding hanks of hair. A great image from this rarely seen Kuniyoshi ronin series.
